DANCE: Ibiza is clubland's summer playground, a magnet for hedonists and the heart of the Balearic beat. Ibiza Town (Eivissa) is the epicenter of the party scene and the best place to lay your hands on all-important discount flyers for the big clubs. Check out the chill-out terrace at the ever-popular Pacha or the ultra-glam El Divino by the harbor. San Antonio (Sant Antoni) is home to most of the island's other superclubs, including Privilege, Amnesia, Eden and Es Paradis.

CHILL: If you find yourself conscious in daylight hours, Ibiza has some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean. Two of the best within easy reach of Ibiza Town are Platja de ses Salines and Platja d'es Cavallet on the southernmost tip of the island. In Ibiza Town itself, check out the area around the port, known as Sa Penya -- great for people watching and browsing the boutiques. If you're after a more relaxed cultural experience, head to D'Alt Vila (the Old Town) -- a district of well-preserved narrow streets and Renaissance town houses recently designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

EAT: Even if food isn't your top priority on an Ibizan night out, there's a thriving restaurant scene to be enjoyed with seafood, unsurprisingly, a specialty. Popular with the pre-clubbing crowd, Pasajeros in Ibiza Town is a cramped canteen that belies the quality of the tasty and filling Mediterranean fare. More upmarket, the Anglo-Argentine-owned Gusto on the north of the harbor does great contemporary metropolitan cuisine. For paella and sea views, try El Boldado on the southeast coast. The Balinese-influenced Banbuddha Grove is also worth a visit for its imaginative "Meditterasian" cooking.

SHOP: Ibiza is famous for its hippy markets -- the most notable being at Es Cana on Wednesday and Las Dalias in San Carlos every Saturday. The stoners may have gone gray long ago but the mix of tie-dye clothes and drapes, Moroccan rugs and hookah pipes is pure hippy trail. The "Rastrillo" (Flea Market) at the old hippodrome in San Jordi is less touristy, selling anything and everything. It's mostly junk, but there's enough vintage clothes, secondhand books and jewelry to attract dedicated bargain hunters. Ibiza Town is full of boutiques, and you should have no problem finding a party outfit at Envy (women) or EGB Man (men). El Secreto de Baltasar does stylish footwear for both sexes. Vinyl junkies looking to take some of the Ibiza vibe home with them will be able to pick up the latest 12s at Plastic Fantastic in San Antonio and DJ Beat in Ibiza Town.
