Could commercial enterprise and private funding provide the main source for space exploration in the future?

I believe, much more funds will be needed from sources other than the two listed in the article. But I believe private funding could play a very great role, as there are many individuals, who like Richard Brandson, can invest much in the exploration of space for the future.
