Stem cell technology
Future Summit

ATLANTA (CNN) -- Despite the controversies surrounding it, stem cell research is already changing lives. In the future, it offers hope for cures and treatments for a variety of diseases and disorders. We want to know what you think about the promise of stem cell research.

--------------------------------------------------------
If everyone that opposed stem cell research had to put up with parkinsons disease for one day, they would have a change of heart.
James Williams, Texas (Aug. 26)

--------------------------------------------------------
I believe that much more research must be done and I am appalled that people will not let reserchers take embryos that are set for distruction to be used for research. It makes me sick and not happy about my government.
John, Manhattan (Aug. 26)

--------------------------------------------------------
I really think this can happen, everything can be done with nanotech.
Jessica, Tampico (Aug. 16)

--------------------------------------------------------
Stem cell research, which may seem beneficial at the present time to help cure diseases, will soon become a plague to humanity. These researchers are mixing DNA from different species which will inevitably create newer and deadlier viruses and possibly new species. Their quest to irradicate maladies of the human condition is laudable, but their methods are reprehensible.
James, Tucson, Arizona (Aug. 16)

--------------------------------------------------------
I have MS, and Stem Cell research is my only hope.
Stu Samsel, Red Wing, MN (Aug. 16)

--------------------------------------------------------
While I appreciate your report on the reality of timetables associated with embryonic stem cell-based cures, the report fails to educate the public on the progress of research based on adult stem cells and cord blood. In fact, from reading this particular report we are left to conclude that no significant progress has been made with these latter cells (which are referenced only once in your report). Is this true, or are adult stem cells and cord cells in fact viable alternatives that avoid the moral controversies that are at the core of the embryonic stem cell debate? Addressing this issue based on the scientific evidence would do much to inform the public, which as a major news corporation is ethically your ultimate responsibiliy.
Jon, UNC, Chapel Hill (Aug. 9)

--------------------------------------------------------
It's still a very young exposure in this country, but I'm fully supporting the stem cells research towards curing the incurables of today's diseases. With such hopes in hand, who would want to let go of the opportunity to prolong life? But certainly, it needs more thorough researches into this field, whether or not it concerns ethics or merely humans' sceptism towards new inventions.
Eleena Liong, Malaysia (Aug. 9)

--------------------------------------------------------
Cellular life begins at conception, but conscious life begins at a far later date. Stem cells are the Holy Grail of medical research and will, if pursued, wipe out some of the most debilitating diseases that now plague humanity. Man made God in his own image, and it's time to get this "God" out of the way of an evolving human race and out of the political arena.
Shelley Brown, Yelm, WA (July 18)

--------------------------------------------------------

I look foward to when everybody can get a organ replacement in case of its failure. The future of stem cell research is very bright provided scientists don't compromise human rights.
Erastus, Nairobi, Kenya (July 17)

--------------------------------------------------------
Is it true that in order for embryonic stem cell research to go forward it wsould take many many eggs donated by women? How will that be done. How dangerous is this and how much will the women be paid?
Celeste Dillon, Chesterfield, MO (July 12)

--------------------------------------------------------
How can Pres. Bush dictate his own personal morals on the rest of us in this issue? He is supposed to represent us politically, not religiously. 2008 cannot come soon enough to send that man on his well deserved vacation on some far off island.
Sheila Rollings, Newark, DE (July 11)

--------------------------------------------------------
The faster we break social barriers regarding stem cells (which is mostly a matter of education) - the more people will be helped by the therapies.
Quinn, Alberta, Canada
(April 18)

--------------------------------------------------------
We need to move forward in science and technology. Stem Cell therapies are one common thread to our mankind.
Greg, Michigan, U.S.
(April 17)

--------------------------------------------------------
Stem cell technology is the greatest revolutionary change in medical practice in the last 40 years.
Berry Laws, Kansas City, U.S.
(April 17)

--------------------------------------------------------
Stem cell technology is fine as long as it uses all possible stem cells equally and does not promote abortion by using just those cells. There exist many cells which are as good as fetal cells for research and health.
Dave, Portland, U.S.
(April 17)

--------------------------------------------------------
Stem Cell research holds the promise of therapies or cures to many of our medical problems. Politics should keep out of science.
Jim Weiner, Pennsylvania, U.S.
(April 17)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stem cell cure should be made easily affordable to all human beings, ie. as regenerative medicine. All governments should fully support this research.
Afred Rich, Malaysia
(April 17)
