ATLANTA (CNN) -- Genetic research is unlocking our fundamental understanding of what it means to be human. In the future, it may allow us to change what it means to be human. We want to know what you think about genetic research.

--------------------------------------------------------
The genetic code, proteomics, and stem cell type research is a new window allowing human interpretation of what we should know about being alive; these efforts are to move full speed ahead. It is not a language we are learning, it is a matter of life and the alternative.
Miguel E. Gordillo, Key West (Aug. 9)

--------------------------------------------------------
Humans cannot be allowed to "reinvent" humanity. In a world where morality is subjective, each scientist, each figure who changes the next generation of 'humans' will be, in fact, changing them to his own standard of human perfection. In the end, there will not be any "super-men" but rather a generation of slaves and drones, who can do only what we have programmed them (via their genes) to do.
Briseis, Phoenix, U.S. (April 17)

--------------------------------------------------------
Medicine will never be the same, we'll be able to get rid of the diseases that attack our bodies. Keep the good work.
Jose, Randallstown (April 17)

--------------------------------------------------------

I'm for any research that improves the quality of life for anyone who arrived in less than perfect conditon. I'm against using genetic research for all the obvious frivolous reasons. I was born perfect, just the way I was meant to be, what society made me or what I've done to myself were choices I made or were made. In the end, unless we are genetically programmed not to end, we'll realize what it is to be human. The answer will most likely be so simple a lot of will have missed. "..what it means to be human." Who ever came up with that one missed the boat completely. We now need science to understand what it means to be human. How pathetic we've become.
