LONDON, England -- Arsenal defender William Gallas will be out of action for several weeks after suffering a thigh injury in training on Monday.

France star Gallas sustained the injury while taking the last shot of his team's training session ahead of their Champions League match against Hamburg.

He will miss a host of key matches including his team's crunch clash at his former club Chelsea on December 10.

Gallas has been in impressive form since his transfer deadline day switch from the English champions to Arsenal in August and Gunners manager Arsene Wenger admits he will be a major loss.

Wenger believes Gallas's heavy recent workload for club and country may have partly caused the injury.

He said: "It's a huge blow because we have so many games coming up and we need everybody on board, especially a player of his experience.

"He has brought experience, winning mentality and communication. He just kicked the ball, miss-hit it and hurt his thigh.

"He played a lot recently. He played the whole game with France, he played on Saturday and the week before.

"You lose players in October and November because they have played in World Cup.

"He wants us to win the game against Chelsea and now we will have to win without him."
