Jones will fly home after collapsing in pain with a knee problem

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- England pace bowler Simon Jones is out of the first test against India because of a knee injury, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on Monday.

"The Glamorgan bowler will fly home to the United Kingdom tomorrow (Tuesday) after a scan conducted on his left knee today revealed minor cartilage damage," the ECB said in a statement.

"His availability for the remainder of the tour will be reassessed after he has been seen by a specialist in the UK."

Jones joins captain Michael Vaughan and vice-captain Marcus Trescothick as early departures, Vaughan through injury and Trescothick for personal reasons.

The test starts in Nagpur on Wednesday.
