(CNN) -- No issue looms greater over this fall's midterm elections than the war in Iraq.

We asked CNN.com readers to send in their thoughts on the situation in Iraq and how the issue will affect their vote this November. (Share your comments.)

Here is a selection of responses, some of which have been edited:

As a lifetime Republican now turned Independent, I feel the Bush administration has led us into this war of choice in Iraq by lies, half-truths and total determination, regardless of the facts, to invade this country.
Valorie Jones; Raleigh, North Carolina

I will not vote for any candidate who does not support immediate withdrawal from Iraq and, hopefully, the removal and indictment of the Bush regime.
Ginger Wright; Lakeside, California

Iraq? A quagmire! That will never end, only get worse. We are loaded with Republicans in this state and they all think like Bush. We Okies will be working hard to fire every single one of them.
James Kelso; Tulsa, Oklahoma

I believe the Iraq war should be ended as soon as possible or at least that they can fight their own war and bring our troops home. ... If Mr. Bush wants to continue this course of action he should start the draft. I think the only reason he doesn't is because his daughters are of age to be drafted. ... He is all for war when it's other people's children, husbands, wives, grandfathers and grandmothers. ... I was never for the war and I am sick that so many have been killed and so much of our tax dollars are being spent on it while things are falling apart at home to support it. Needless to say it will be my No. 1 issue when I vote.
Terry Evans; Savannah, Georgia

I believe this is a huge issue. How can anyone say it isn't an issue when we are at war? The Democrats will complain that the Republicans are using it as an election issue. The truth is that we cannot trust the Democrats with national security. They have been critical of our troops, undermined the war effort, and undermined surveillance programs. Do the country a favor and vote for a Republican!!
