WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Reports filed recently with the Federal Election Commission show that the Senate and House fundraising arms of the national Democratic party have widened their cash advantage over their Republican counterparts, while the Republican National Committee continues to have more than four times the cash in the bank than its rival, the Democratic National Committee.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee reported having $37.7 million in the bank by June 30, compared to $19.9 million for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. The DSCC also almost doubled the NRSC in political contributions raised in June, $8.8 million to $4.8 million. The DCCC trails the National Republican Congressional Committee in overall fundraising this cycle, but in May they edged the NRCC in available cash, and widened that lead by the end of June.

Both the DSCC and DCCC are enjoying more fundraising success this election cycle than in past years. Historically, the Democratic party committees have lagged far behind the GOP. According to FEC records dating back to 1987, the DSCC or DCCC have outraised their GOP counterparts in end-of-year fundraising only once in the last 20 years -- in 2004, when the DSCC brought in $89 million to the NRSC's $79 million. The DCCC has a worse track record, being outraised 3-to-1 in six of the last nine elections (they were outraised 2-to-1 in the other three cycles).

The DNC had a record-breaking fundraising year in 2004, but now once again trails the RNC in both cash and money raised. It has less than half of what it had in the bank at this point during the last mid-term cycle in 2002, while the RNC has roughly the same.

CNN's Xuan Thai contributed to this report.
