NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Car rental companies are set to offer electronic toll payment devices as options on their cars, according to an article Monday.

Cendant Car Rental Group, owner of Avis and Budget, will announce Monday that renters in the New York and Houston area will have the option of paying tolls electronically for a $2 a day fee, plus the toll charges, according to an article in USA Today.

Rival Hertz is also said to be testing a toll paying device, the article said.

Highway operators say renters, emboldened by a sense of anonymity, are more likely to breeze through tolls without paying, according to the article. Highway officials hope electronic payments will cut down on the practice, in addition to speeding things up for drivers.
