DETROIT (CNNMoney.com) - Toyota unveiled the latest version of its chart-topper, the Camry at the Detroit Auto Show. The Camry frequently tops lists of America's best-selling cars. "With the new 2007 Camry, Toyota once again raised the bar with the family sedan," said Don Esmond, senior vice president of automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. "Camry's reputation as the gold standard was developed over more than 20 years of refining this excellent package and this new Camry continues that reputation." The new Camry sports a rounder look and features a grill with the brand's new unified look. The new Yaris small car, also unveiled in Detroit this week, sports the same curvy grill. Toyota designers wanted to give the Camry a less conservative and more muscular look, the company said. The new Camry has the same overall length as the outgoing version but it has a slightly longer wheelbase, a feature that increases interior space, the company said, and improves ride and handling, The new Camry will also be the first available as a gas/electric hybrid car. The base engine is an upgraded version of Camry's 2.4-liter 4-cylinder. The car will also be available with a 3.5-liter V-6 that, the company said, is designed to deliver better fuel economy than the current 3.3-liter V-6. The new Camry Hybrid will have a 147 horsepower 4-cylinder and, with the addition of the hybrid's electric motor, the car will produce a total of 192 horsepower.
