Spanish club bombed, no injuries
(CNN) -- A bomb exploded Wednesday night in a nightclub in the province of Navarra in northern Spain, an attack authorities were linking to the Basque separatist group ETA, a central government spokesman told CNN. No one was hurt in the blast, which occurred at 10 p.m. (9 p.m. GMT) at the Borracho nightclub, which was closed at the time and suffered property damage, said the spokesman from Pamplona, the provincial capital of Navarra. He asked not to be identified by name. The nightclub is in the town of San Esteban in northern Navarra Province. The town is about 50 miles (80 km) southeast of the coastal city of San Sebastian. A warning call preceded the blast, according to CNN+. That is typical of blasts carried out by the Basque separatist group ETA. ETA, blamed for more than 800 killings in its 37-year fight for Basque independence, is listed as a terrorist organization by the European Union and the United States. ETA has not killed anyone since 2003, although it continues a campaign of bombings that have caused injuries and property damage this year. More than 500 ETA prisoners are now in Spanish jails, after police in Spain and France, ETA's traditional rearguard region, have boosted cooperation in recent years.
