ROME, Italy (CNN) -- An earthquake near the Italian coast has shaken parts of the country including the capital.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 4.8 magnitude quake was centered along Italy's west coast, about 45km (30 miles) south of Rome.

The quake occurred just after 2 p.m. (1200 GMT). No casualties or damage were reported.

Reports on Italian television said the quake was centered at sea near the towns of Anzio and Nettuno.

"It felt very strong, my legs are still shaking," Valentina, an employee at Anzio city hall told Reuters. "We ran outside when it started so we still don't know the effects."

Residents and workers in Rome fled their homes and offices as buildings shook for about five seconds.
