LONDON, England (CNN) -- British authorities investigating Thursday's attempted bombings against the London transit system said that they were looking for four men seen on closed-circuit video footage taken around the time of the attacks.

At a news briefing Friday, officials also said that a police shooting earlier in the day was directly related to Thursday's attacks.

Key points of Friday's briefing:

  • Police asked the public to help identify the four men seen in closed-circuit video near the scenes of Thursday's attacks.
  • Preliminary forensic tests showed that bombs partially detonated at each of the four sites.
  • The devices were thought to have contained homemade explosives. It was unclear what was used to detonate the bombs.
  • The bombs were concealed in dark backpacks.
  • Police were searching three locations in London as part of the probe.
  • Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair said that Friday's fatal shooting at the Stockwell Underground station in south London was "directly linked to the ongoing and expanding anti-terrorist operation." He called the death regrettable but said the man challenged police and refused to obey instructions.
