CNN -- Many people follow strict traditions at Lunar New Year.
-- Sweeping or dusting should not be done on New Year's Day for fear that good fortune will be swept away. The entire house should be cleaned beforehand.
-- Washing your hair on New Year's Day is also a no no. You might wash away good luck.
-- Red is considered to be a lucky color, so clothing of that color is very popular at New Year, especially underwear.
-- Children and unmarried friends are given small red envelopes with money inside for good fortune. These are called "lai see".
