Uribe hospitalized with viral infection
Colombian president forced to cancel visit to Venezuela
(CNN) -- Colombian President Alvaro Uribe was hospitalized Thursday, forcing him to cancel a trip to Venezuela to heal a rift with President Hugo Chavez.
Uribe was taken to the Naval Hospital in Cartagena, Colombia, suffering from a viral infection, his office said in a statement.
He was to spend the night and undergo a series of tests.
Uribe's visit with Chavez was aimed at ending a dispute that occurred in December when Bogota arranged to have Colombian rebel leader Rodrigo Granda captured in Caracas, Venezuela, and returned to Colombia, where he was arrested.
Chavez called the capture a kidnapping and said it violated his country's sovereignty.
