Latest Rita forecasts, warnings
(CNN) -- Here are the latest numbers from the National Hurricane Center's 5 p.m. ET Saturday advisory on Tropical Storm Rita. Top wind speed: Near 50 mph, with higher gusts. Forecasters predict it will weaken to a tropical depression during the next 12 hours. Location of storm center: 25 miles south-southwest of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Lufkin, Texas. Movement: Toward the north at nearly 12 mph. This motion should continue for the next 24 hours. Size of storm: Tropical storm force winds extend up to 160 miles. Storm surge and rainfall: The coastal storm flooding should begin to slowly subside Saturday. However, tides along the southeast Louisiana and Mississippi coasts in areas affected by Katrina could be 4 to 6 feet above normal and be accompanied by large waves. Areas along the storm's path in northeast Texas and into the the western section of the Lower Mississippi Valley should expect 3 to 6 inches. Some areas may get 15 inches. Tornadoes are possible through the night and early Sunday along Rita's eastern rim in Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi.
