Body of 20th seaplane crash victim found
MIAMI, Florida -- A body found floating off the southeast coast of Florida has been identified as the 20th victim of Monday's seaplane crash off Miami Beach, the U.S. Coast Guard said. A Coast Guard crew retrieved the body about 3 miles east of Key Biscayne, and it was later identified by the Miami-Dade County medical examiner, according to a Coast Guard statement. The bodies of the other 19 people aboard the Chalk's Ocean Airways plane were found in the hours following the crash. The fuselage of the Grumman G-73 Mallard, built in 1947, crashed into the Atlantic Ocean after its right wing broke off following takeoff. (Full story) The plane was en route to Bimini, in the Bahamas. National Transportation Safety Board investigators said they found a fatigue fracture in the structure of the wing that broke off. Chalk's Ocean Airways grounded its entire fleet of G-73s to inspect them for fractures. The Federal Aviation Administration said it may inspect all G-73s and sent out a bulletin alerting operators of the aircraft and explained that it would take "appropriate action" if it found that aircraft type had critical structural deficiencies. About 25 of the aircraft are in operation, FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown said.
