Amber Alert

(CNN) -- Police in Stockton, California, on Thursday night said a 12-year-old Guatemalan girl, who was the subject of an Amber Alert, has been found in nearby Tracy, California.

According to Lt. Kevin Hatano, Juana Martinez and the man suspected of abducting her, Jose Tomas, were brought to the attention of police around 9 p.m. (midnight ET) after a Tracy resident fed them and washed their clothes before seeing their pictures on television.

A press release from Stockton police said Martinez and Tomas were taken in by an employee of a hardware store in Tracy after she noticed they looked hungry. While at the employee's house, photos of the two were broadcast on TV news, leading her to confront them and then report their whereabouts to police.

An Amber Alert was issued Wednesday night after Martinez's father reported her missing, said Stockton Police Officer Sean Fenner. He told police he saw his daughter in a pickup truck with Tomas, a 21-year-old man who lived with the family until being kicked out of the home by the father when the two had an argument earlier this week.

Tomas allegedly threatened to kill someone when he left the home, Fenner added. The father returned home Wednesday and found his daughter missing.

Police said Juana arrived from Guatemala only four months ago, which had hindered the investigation because of language difficulties.
