![]() Rosenborg fans are hoping for a successful European campaign OSLO, Norway -- Rosenborg have confirmed that Per-Mathias Hoegmo has replaced Per Joar Hansen as coach just days before their Champions League bid gets underway. Hansen resigned late on Sunday after Rosenborg's latest defeat all but ended their hopes of a record 14th consecutive Norwegian title. The 45-year-old Hoegmo guided Norway's women's team to Olympic gold in 2000 before taking over the men's Under-21 team. Recently Hoegmo, a former coach of Tromso, has been working as a consultant for a television channel. Hansen explained the reasons for his decision after the 2-1 home defeat by Lillestrom which left them eighth in the 14-strong league with nine games left to play. "I'm leaving out of respect for the team, and I hope it will lift some of the pressure and help get us back on course," said Hansen. Hoegmo faces a testing first match on Wednesday as Rosenborg travel to Romania to tackle FC Steaua Bucharest in the first leg of their third qualifying round tie.
