VALENCIA, Spain -- Carlos Marchena struck a dramatic equaliser in the seventh minute of injury time to give Spain a 1-1 Group Seven draw with Bosnia.
Spain looked destined for only their second home defeat in a qualifier in 14 years when Zvjezdan Misimovic gave the visitors a shock lead before the break.
The goal came completely out of the blue as Spain had dominated throughout.
But their lack of firepower up front was cruelly exposed by their opponents who gave them a lesson in finishing by scoring in practically their only attack of the game.
The visitors suffered a double set back when first substitute Nedim Halilovic and then midfielder Mirsad Beslija were sent off in the dying minutes.
Spain responded by laying siege to the Bosnia area and eventually got their reward when Marchena fired home from close range in the final move of the game.
The point was enough to send Spain top of the group, a point ahead of Serbia & Montenegro, but Luis Aragones' side have played a game more.
