MUNICH, Germany -- Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath is supremely confident his side have what it takes to eliminate English champions Arsenal in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Bayern host the first leg at the Olympic Stadium Tuesday with Magath bullish about their chances after the 5-0 weekend win over Borussia Dortmund.
"Arsenal are a top team that could win the Champions League -- if they were not playing Bayern," said Magath who misses playmaker Michael Ballack who has a thigh muscle injury.
"The Dortmund game was a sign that we are ready to beat Arsenal. We are playing well and need not fear any opponent - I am confident we will win."
Magath added somewhat tongue-in-cheek: "5-0 would certainly be a good result as we could travel to London with the pressure off."
The last time an English team defeated Bayern at the Olympic Stadium was back in the 1993/94 season when Norwich City won 2-1 in the second round of the UEFA Cup.
While Magath, a 1983 European Cup winner with SV Hamburg, talks up his side's chances Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was more reserved.
"Bayern have a wealth of experience in the Champions League and have been crowned European champions four times," acknowledged Wenger.
"They will be a very difficult team to play against."
The match has whipped the German media into a frenzy with German international goalkeeping duo Oliver Kahn and Jens Lehmann coming face to face in Europe's premier competition.
But Magath refuses to listen to talk that Arsenal's Lehmann can even be compared to his first choice goalkeeper.
"Oliver is in great condition and the hype will not affect him," maintained Magath. "He is the best goalkeeper and there is no room to debate that fact."
Bayern field Brazilian World Cup winner Lucio and Dutch international Roy Makaay, while Arsenal look to French trio Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira.
