Fall 2005's most promising new TV series

(Entertainment Weekly) -- A quick glance at the 31 new fall offerings from the six major networks might have you wondering if a lot of TV execs copied from each other's notes during development season.

Science-fiction and supernatural shows are everywhere: "Invasion" and "The Night Stalker" on ABC, "Surface" on NBC, "Threshold" and "The Ghost Whisperer" on CBS, and "Supernatural" on the WB. It's all a little bit, well, scary. (For our money, "Invasion" and "Threshold" rank, respectively, first and second in the genre.)

But fret not, TV lovers. The networks aren't completely out of fresh ideas. In fact, after wading through the good ("Prison Break"), the bad ("The War at Home"), and the not terribly funny ("Freddie"), EW.com came up with a list of 10 series worth sampling, with subjects as disparate as Chris Rock's childhood, Amy Grant traveling the country to grant people's wishes, Geena Davis as the country's first female president, and Martha Stewart putting potential apprentices through a Trump-like ordeal. (And no, she doesn't say "You're fired!")
