Clive Owen
Angelina Jolie

(Entertainment Weekly) -- Entertainment Weekly's daily guide to notable shows:

11-11:30 PM
SERIES DEBUT: WEEKENDS AT THE DL
(Comedy Central, TV-14) "Imagine Dean Martin crossed with 'Playboy After Dark,' " says comedian D.L. Hughley, describing his loungey new late-night talk show. "We're gonna drink wine, smoke cigars, and talk about what's going on." Weekends updates the usual format -- monologue, panel of boldface names debating news and entertainmentwith diverse guests and Hughley's own wry (read: jaded) spin. Although he declines to reveal his guest list, Hughley says invites have been extended to Al Sharpton, John Singleton, Nick Cannon, and Democratic adviser Joe Lockhart, among others. Not that Hughley will always be in the house: "Weekends" will also feature roving-reporter segments, like one bit where he roams L.A. in search of another black woman with the same hairstyle as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Consider us RSVP'd. -- Margeaux Watson

Best of the rest

5:45-8 PM
BEYOND BORDERS
(The Movie Channel, TV-R) Shockingly, Clive Owen, Angelina Jolie, and a mechanical starving baby do not a watchable movie make.

6:15-8:30 PM
UP CLOSE & PERSONAL
(HBO, TV-PG13) You're sleeping too peacefully. You need a song stuck in your head. I'm thinking repetitive. I'm thinking painful. I'm thinking Celine Dion. Go!

6:50-9 PM
G.I. JANE
(STARZ!, TV-R) Demi had three kids but Ashton was still a teen when this came out. And that's why we love her.

8-10PM
CHANNEL-CHANGE ALERT: VERONICA MARS
(CBS) To expose UPN's little-watched but critically acclaimed show, CBS is doing its sister network a favor and airing the first four episodes of Mars (the first two are tonight, the rest next Friday). Why couldn't the Eye have done the same for "Homeboys in Space"?

8-10 PM
DATELINE NBC
(NBC) Emulate Stone Phillips if you want to be a TV newscaster. He's got that head bob of sincerity down cold.

8:30-9 PM
BLUE COLLAR TV
(ABC, TV-14-D) The "Used Emporium," where everything from toothbrushes to diapers to, apparently, jokes is a twofer. (R)

9-9:30 PM
HOPE & FAITH
(ABC, TV-PG-D) The one where Faith moves into the mall. Hey ... housing is insanely expensive, but malls across the country are dying. She's onto something! (R)

9-9:30 PM
TOOLBELT DIVA
(Discovery Home Channel, TV-G) Heidi builds a doggy duplex. Dude, it's July. Don't look at me like that.

10-11 PM
NUMB3RS
(CBS, TV-PG) Wouldn't it make more sense if we found out some weird virus had already infected L.A.? (R)

10-11 PM
MONK
(USA) Sigh ... so listen: Trudy may not be dead. Two guest stars, a resurrection plot, and only four shows into the season. I think we should worry.
