(Entertainment Weekly) -- Entertainment Weekly's daily guide to notable shows:

8-11 PM
SEASON PREMIERES: SCI FI FRIDAY
(Sci Fi Channel) Hang on for major changes, fellow travelers. "Stargate SG-1" shows it's over Richard Dean Anderson by casting a younger, hotter version of him, Ben Browder, as Lieut. Col. Cameron Mitchell. Look for Lou Gossett Jr. to play a Jaffa leader, and Beau Bridges as the new head of Stargate Command. "Stargate Atlantis," meanwhile, redecorates with Jason Momoa, the dreadlocked bartender from Fox's "North Shore," who in spite of his inherent hotness, always did look like an alien. The nod to sci-fi fans is "The X-Files' " Mitch Pileggi in a recurring role as a battle cruiser commander who fights to save Atlantis. "Battlestar Galactica" picks up with Comm. Adama's life-threatening gunshot wound as Col. Tigh (Michael Hogan) bumbles his way through a Cylon attack. Let's put it this way: Unless Adama recovers, this whole crew is fracked.

Best of the rest

8-9 PM
SOUTHERN STEEL
(Discovery Channel, TV-G) The guys unveil the bikes: Sumthin' Simple and So Simple. Nice names. Simple Is as Simple Does might not have inspired confidence.

8-10 PM
UNDERCOVER BROTHER
(Fox, TV-PG-DLV) Hindsight being 20/20, don't you wanna know how much of Conspiracy Brother was on the page, and how much was pure Chappelle?

8:30-9 PM
BLUE COLLAR TV
(The WB, TV-PG-D) Redneck Spelling Bee contestants get stuck on the word engine. You saw this one, right? Is there a bad Native American joke coming? (R)

9-10 PM
SEASON PREMIERE: DR. G: MEDICAL EXAMINER
(Discovery Health Channel, TV-PG) Look on the bright side: You only have to see her once.

9-11 PM
THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT
(STARZ!, TV-R) An insect causing a chain reaction by flapping its wings is the most convincing theory ever of how Ashton Kutcher became a star.

10-11 PM
JOHN TURTURRO ALERT!: MONK
(USA) Brother Ambrose returns to wait with Monk for their daddy, who I'm almost sure is named Godot.

10-11 PM
NUMB3RS
(CBS, TV-14) The biggest threat to society? Counterfeiters. Lose faith in God, or in yourself, and life goes on. But lose faith in the money and all hell breaks loose. (R)

10 PM-12:15 AM
SPIDER-MAN 2
(Cinemax, TV-14) "Fantastic Four" can't possibly be this good, so crank the AC, invite your rudest friends (bonus for screaming kids!), and pretend you're at the movies.
