The music of 'The Blues Brothers'

(CNN) -- Several noted R&B singers and musicians played roles -- and songs -- in "The Blues Brothers." Among them:

  • Cab Calloway. The jazz elder statesman led a rousing version of his best-known song, "Minnie the Moocher."
  • Aretha Franklin. The "Queen of Soul," playing bluesman Matt "Guitar" Murphy's wife, stopped the show with a performance of "Think."
  • James Brown. The "Godfather of Soul," playing a preacher, inspires Jake Blues (John Belushi) with roof-raising gospel performance of "The Old Landmark."
  • Ray Charles. As the owner of a pawn shop, willing to "throw in the black keys for free" of the electric piano the Blues Brothers want to buy, he plays "Shake a Tail Feather."
  • Steve Cropper and Donald "Duck" Dunn. The guitarist and bassist from Booker T. and the MGs, the Stax Records house band, gave the Blues Brothers Band instant credibility.
  • John Lee Hooker. The bluesman played "Boom Boom."
