New You Resolution: Participants' winning e-mailsOriginal submissions from the three pairs chosen for 2006
Donna Watts-Brighthaupt and her boss Frank Purcell love "dry-rubbed ribs." SPECIAL REPORTHEALTH LIBRARYYOUR E-MAIL ALERTS(CNN) -- What does it take to become a participant in American Morning's "New You Resolution"? You can judge for yourself after reading original e-mails from the three pairs chosen for 2006. They include a lobbyist and his assistant, who share a love of ribs and candy; twin brothers -- one an attorney and the other a doctor -- who want to challenge each other to live healthier lives; and a military husband and wife who want to learn how to teach their entire family to eat better. Here are their e-mail applications: The lobbyistsName: Donna Watts-Brighthaupt Health issues: Frank is a staunch, bow-tie-wearing Protestant conservative from the outer, outer limits beyond the Capital Beltway, and I am a trendy, sarcastic, quick-witted "Million More Movement" attendee moderate from the inner city. We have one thing in common: We love good, rich food, i.e., dry-rubbed ribs, a good steak or pork chop and even a tender grilled salmon. We snack all day and mention our weight maybe once a month. We could stand to firm up a bit and maybe drop a couple of pounds while we're at it. Why choose: As lobbyists we're in the thick of Capitol Hill and all its glory. In this day of deep partisanship, I think it would be nice to demonstrate that we as a people may have more in common than not. Frank and I definitely have ideological differences, but the mutual respect and genuine good will for one another is clear. We work for a dynamic health association. I believe at least a four-pack for Frank and a rack that defies gravity for myself would be a welcome treat for Congress while advocating for our members. The military familyName: Pedro J. Rampolla Health issues: Weight gain, stress management and relaxation, healthy eating and time management. Being an air traffic controller in the Air National Guard, a parent of four young sons, and a partner to a great mom and busy lady dedicated to the well-being of military families, provides for a hectic lifestyle. Why choose: We are a great couple with a great story that most families (especially today's military families) can relate to. As I finish my tour in Iraq, this would be a great way to come home and improve our marriage, family life and overall well-being. The twinsName: Stuart Rasch Health issues: My partner is my twin brother. He is an attorney in Washington, D.C., and I am a physician in New York. We both suffer from hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia, with significant family history of CAD. Both of us are overweight, but not obese, and need to get "into shape" to provide for a healthier life. Why choose: Identical twins have always been interesting to study to determine who is more motivated, especially when they live miles apart, like we do. Since we share the genetics but not the lifestyle, it would enable motivation to be the determining factor for health.
