(CNN) -- Like her four fellow "New You Revolution" participants, Thekla Fischer is recording regular journal entries documenting her efforts to break bad habits over the program's eight-week run.

A 33-year-old attorney, Fischer aims to develop good habits and get in shape physically and mentally before becoming pregnant. Below are excerpts from the New York resident's journal. (Profile; E-mail Fischer)

February 22-28

I went snowboarding for the first time today. It was a thrill. I can't wait to go again. [My husband] Jason went for the first time, too, and can't wait to go back.

I missed breakfast because we were on the way to the mountain. I am boycotting fast food, and there isn't much else on the road.

[The next day] I went skiing. One of the best days ever. Blue skies and the slopes were nearly empty. I skied with one of the captains from Jason's company. We were pretty well matched, and we had some really solid runs. Jason went snowboarding again and did really well.

[On another day] I skipped breakfast --running off to the airport to go to Germany.

I'm feeling sluggish and nauseous. I felt so healthy when I was skiing. The contrast between that and sitting all day to fly overseas has made it eminently clear to me how much I need to exercise to really feel good.

February 15-21

I treated myself by going to a spa and getting a facial.

I didn't enjoy my yoga class as much today. My usual instructor was out of town, and the substitute didn't work us hard enough -- too much chanting and not enough sweating.

I think my body actually craves exercise now. I had trouble holding the balancing poses in yoga. That usually happens if I had drinks the night before.

[On another day] I took a pilates class, for a change. I also ran three miles. My biggest setback was giving in and eating a candy bar. But psychologically, it did make me run harder in the evening.

[My husband] Jason made me breakfast, which included scrambled eggs with dill, cheese, potatoes, spinach, mushrooms and bacon.

February 8-14

I added sit-ups to my workout routine. I think yoga is doing wonders, but a friend is coaching me through a truly brutal 15-minute ab [routine]. This will hopefully get rid of the last of the squishiness.

My biggest setback today was giving in to potato sticks at 5 pm. We have an "office snack" that includes some pretty bad junk food. I mostly avoid it, but this time, I gave in to the temptation. Oddly, after eating healthy for almost a month now, they didn't taste good at all.

I enjoyed Valentine's Day and not obsessing about the "New You." Valentine's Day was always such a buzz kill before Jason.

(Editor's note: Jason is Thekla's husband, who had been serving in the U.S. military and recently returned home.)

I am most grateful for having some time to spend with Jason, who sometimes takes a backseat to work and my CNN duties.

February 1-7

I feel tired. I've had a series of very long days, which may have something to do with my workout schedule.

Tomorrow I'd like to try to get some rest and let my muscles heal, so I'm not going to work out.

To be healthier, I worked hard in Erin's yoga class and then walked home afterwards.

I took a break from work to get to a yoga class.

I treated myself to having pancakes and dipping the bacon in the syrup -- so good!

My goal is to mix up the exercise routine to add more cardio in the next few weeks.

January 25-31

To be healthier, I've cut down on portion sizes, stopped eating as soon as I feel full and went for a run.

My biggest setback, personally, was finding out that my husband, Jason, will not be home for a few more weeks. Paperwork is holding up his discharge.

I also scarfed down too many carbs at lunch.

But I did go to yoga class instead of being a wuss and going home from work.

I also feel good about going to the dentist, which is something I was advised to do for the baby-to-be. There's a link between premature births and a mom's bad dental hygiene.

January 18-24

I felt low and lousy, because I have a cold. But after doing yoga, I felt great!

Still, I've been skipping breakfast too many times.

My biggest accomplishment was the handstand I did. That was the thing I told Dr. Gupta that I wanted to do easier and more often. It is partially my benchmark of success in the program.
