Learning Activity: Examine the legacy of Rosa Parks
RELATEDCNN STUDENT NEWS(CNN Student News) -- Rosa Parks, whose act of civil disobedience in 1955 helped inspired the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, died on October 24 in Detroit, Michigan. She was 92. On October 30, Parks became the first woman to lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda. Students will use this activity to learn about the life and times of Rosa Parks, including her contributions to the civil rights movement. ProcedureHave students conduct research to learn about the life and times of Rosa Parks, including her contributions to the civil rights movement. Pose the following questions to guide students: After students share their findings in class discussion, have them imagine that they were asked to deliver eulogies for Rosa Parks during her funeral services in Detroit, Michigan.
