Learning Activity: Gaza Withdrawal

(CNN Student News) -- Students will learn about the history of the Middle East since 1920, and consider the reasons behind this week's Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the differing views on this policy from each of the interested parties' perspectives.
Divide students into four groups, and assign each group one of the following topics related to the history of the Middle East since 1920:
Instruct groups to conduct research on their assigned topics and deliver summaries of their findings to the class. Following the presentations, lead a class discussion about the reasons behind this week's Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the differing views on this policy from each of the interested parties' perspectives. Then, have groups combine their research to create a multimedia presentation entitled "The Middle East Since 1920," and have them present it to another class.
Standard II. Time, Continuity and Change: Students will learn about the ways human beings view themselves in and over time.
Standard III. People, Places and Environments: Students will make informed and critical decisions about the relationship between human beings and their environment.
Standard VI. Power, Authority and Governance: Students will understand the historical development of structures of power, authority and governance and their evolving functions in contemporary U.S. society as well as other parts of the world.
