'10 die' in Jordan tourist crash
AMMAN, Jordan -- At least 10 people, eight of them British tourists, have been killed in a bus accident in southern Jordan, officials said.
Another 24 passengers were injured in Thursday's crash, Reuters news agency reported. The injured have been taken to local hospitals.
The accident occurred around 1100 GMT near the southern Jordanian town of Tafila as the bus traveled from ancient city of Petra to the capital Amman, Reuters reported.
"There are 10 dead including eight Britons, one Jordanian and one Egyptian," a civil defense source told Reuters.
The UK Foreign Ministry said British nationals were involved in the crash but could not confirm any fatalities.
"Consular staff in Jordan are on their way to the scene," the ministry said.
King Abdullah visited six wounded Britons in hospital, medical sources said. He was accompanied by Prince Charles, who is currently on a four-day tour of Jordan, Reuters reported.
