Sources: Palestinian militant killed in Israeli airstrike
GAZA CITY (CNN) -- An Israeli aircraft attacked a car near Khan Yunis, Gaza, on Monday, killing a Palestinian militant and wounding four others, Palestinian security sources said.
The dead man was a member of the Salah A Din Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committee, Palestinian medical sources said.
An area chief of the committee was critically wounded in the attack, the sources said.
There was no immediate word from the Israeli military about the Palestinian report.
The Popular Resistance Committee is a militant Palestinian group primarily made up of members of Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement.
In other Gaza violence Monday, Israeli soldiers killed three Palestinians near Jewish settlements and wounded a Palestinian teacher and four Palestinian school children in three separate incidents, Palestinian security sources said.
In one of the reports, Israeli army gunfire killed a Palestinian man in the Khan Yunis refugee camp in southern Gaza, Palestinian security sources said.
An Israeli army spokesman said he was checking on the report.
In a second incident, Israeli army fire in Rafah, Gaza, wounded a female teacher and four school children as they returned home from school, Palestinian security sources said. Two of the wounded were in serious condition and three were in moderate condition, Palestinian medical sources said.
The Israeli army spokesman's office said a preliminary investigation indicated that no shots had been fired in the area.
But the spokesman's office did say that Israeli forces had fired warning shots in an area south of Rafah after receiving information that Palestinians were preparing to lay explosives in the area.
In northern Gaza, Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinian men on Monday, who were trying to infiltrate the Israeli settlement of Dugit near Beit Lahya, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.
The men also belonged to the Popular Resistance Committee, Palestinian security sources said.
Israeli military sources said Israeli soldiers spotted two Palestinians crawling toward the settlement fence, and shot them to death.
