(CNN) -- Saudi Arabia arrested eight suspects linked to recent clashes between militants and security forces and seized three cars loaded with explosives, an Interior Ministry official said Sunday.

"Eight people linked with the recent incidents in Riyadh have been captured, but the investigation requires (us) not to reveal their identities and the roles they played," the official said.

In a detailed announcement on the Saudi news agency, an Interior Ministry official said the cars were "well equipped with thousands of kilograms of explosives, with money and fake documents."

Saudi security had been searching for one of these cars since February 13, when the ministry sent out a description of the car, which it believed was owned by a suspected militant who had packed it "with a huge amount of explosives to be used in a criminal act."

Seven Saudi security forces have been killed in recent clashes.
