BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A car bomb has exploded near a government building in the northern Iraqi city of Samarra, killing at least one Iraqi civilian, U.S. military sources told CNN.
At least one other Iraqi civilian was seriously injured, while 19 other Iraqis were slightly injured as well as two U.S. soldiers, the sources said.
The bomb -- inside a Toyota pickup truck parked by the building -- was either remotely detonated or with a timer since there was no evidence it was a suicide bombing, the sources said.
While U.S. soldiers were close by working with Iraqi officials, no Americans or coalition personnel were seriously hurt, the sources said.
Samarra, about 100 km (62 miles) north of Baghdad, lies within the so-called Sunni triangle -- an area north and west of the capital -- where insurgents have waged frequent attacks on civilians and U.S. forces.
The city was the scene of a fierce firefight last November when insurgents engaged in running battles with American troops. Over 50 Iraqis were killed, while five U.S. soldiers were wounded.
