(CNN) -- The last person rescued from the rubble after a devastating earthquake that killed about 30,000 people in the Iranian city of Bam has died from respiratory problems, doctors said.
The 56-year-old man was found alive but in poor health Thursday, 13 days after being buried by the devastating 6.6 magnitude quake that struck the southeastern town on December 26.
The man was in a coma when he was found by search teams, and was taken to the International Federation Center -- a coalition of humanitarian relief agencies -- for treatment. He died on Sunday.
A 97-year-old woman pulled from the rubble eight days after the quake has survived but Iranian authorities last week ended general search-and-rescue operations. (Full story)
The quake destroyed most of the city and the tourist-attraction ruins of its ancient counterpart, Arg-e-Bam -- the more modern Bam's main source of income -- where a 2,000 year-old fortress crumbled to the ground.
Relief workers from Iran and more than 60 countries have been trying to help tens of thousands of survivors who are homeless and without basic necessities.
A wave of tremors continued to roll through the region this week, forcing authorities to close schools and warn oil and gas workers in the country's southwest to take precautions.
