Swiss arrests 8 over Riyadh bombs
BERN, Switzerland (CNN) -- Swiss authorities have arrested eight foreign nationals in connection with their investigation into the Riyadh bombings in May that killed 23 people.
The eight people have been charged with providing logistical support for criminal organizations, the Swiss prosecutor's office said Friday.
But officials declined to provide any details on the nationalities of the suspects, who were detained Thursday during a nationwide sweep.
Switzerland opened up its investigation of the May 12 terror attack, after one of its nationals was killed in the triple car bombings.
Saudi authorities blame the al Qaeda terror organization for attack, which killed 23 people -- most of them Westerners -- at three complexes in Riyadh, housing Westerners. Twelve other bodies were identified as bombers.
In another attack blamed on al Qaeda, suicide bombers killed 18 people in a housing compound in Riyadh in November.
The United States has been putting pressure on Saudi Arabia to curb militancy since the September 11 attacks, which were carried out by mainly Saudi hijackers.
