Polish hostage pleads for life
(CNN) -- A video of a Polish woman captured last week by an Iraqi militant group showed her pleading for her life Saturday and urging Poland to withdraw its troops from Iraq.
The tape aired by Al-Jazeera television showed Teresa Borcz Khalifa sitting in front of a banner with the group's name, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq Fundamentalist Brigades.
The Polish hostage also repeated a demand that for the release of all female prisoners from Iraqi prisons.
President Alexander Kwasnieski of Poland has said he and his government are "trying to do all we can to help" the hostage -- but he drew the line at actual negotiations.
The remarks, part of a transcript of a radio interview on Friday, were posted on the president's Web site and they were confirmed by Polish authorities.
"Our embassy in Baghdad has been put on full alert for work and talks with those who would be ready to talk," Kwasnieski said on state radio. "Naturally, you must not negotiate," he added.
Al-Jazeera Thursday also aired video images of the woman. She has lived in Baghdad for many years and has dual Polish-Iraqi citizenship.
