Report: Diana lover held for drugs
LONDON, England -- James Hewitt, the former lover of Diana, Princess of Wales, has been arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs, according to British media reports.
Hewitt, 46, was held at a bar in west London on Wednesday night, police told UK's Press Association. A 37-year-old woman was also arrested, police said.
The former British cavalry officer spent the night at a police station in London where he was due to be questioned on Thursday, PA reported.
A police spokeswoman told Reuters the suspected drugs found on the pair were class "A," a category that includes cocaine and heroin, but she declined to give details.
Hewitt was branded a "love rat" by the British press after he published a book in which he described his secret love affair with Diana as her marriage to heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles publicly came apart.
Diana, who was later divorced from Charles and who died in a Paris car crash in August 1997, was said to have been "devastated" at Hewitt's public betrayal of their five-year affair.
In December 2002, Hewitt tried to sell love letters from the princess but failed to find a buyer willing to pay the £10 million ($18.4 million) asking price. (Full story)
