8 dead in UK factory blast
LONDON, England (CNN) -- The death toll from an explosion at a plastics factory in the Scottish city of Glasgow has now risen to eight.
Emergency workers recovered a body from the rubble early Thursday, Strathclyde police said.
Officials are optimistic that another person trapped after Tuesday's blast would be found alive.
"We still believe there to be one person trapped underneath that rubble," Strathclyde firemaster Brian Sweeney told the UK's Press Association.
"We have fresh teams, fresh crews and fresh dogs on site this morning. We remain optimistic, sleeves are rolled up and morale is high."
Five people died at the scene of the explosion, and two others died later at the hospital, police said.
At least 40 others were injured in the explosion at the Stockline Plastics factory -- 15 seriously.
The blast took place at about noon near the center of the city. There was no fire, and atmospheric tests indicated there was no airborne chemical release.
Rescuers had been using sniffer dogs, heat and ultrasound detectors to check for any victims that might have been trapped in the rubble.
The fire brigade said early investigations indicated the explosion was an industrial accident; police earlier ruled out terrorism as a cause.
