School shooting at The Hague
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (Reuters) -- A Dutch teacher was shot dead at his high school in The Hague, and police said they were holding a pupil who turned himself in hours after the shooting.
The suspect was being held on suspicion of manslaughter but has not been charged, a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office said Tuesday.
"The teacher died at 10 p.m. tonight. He died from a gunshot wound to the head... There is a minor boy in custody, who is a student at the school and who came to police by himself," the spokeswoman said.
She declined to give further details.
Although shootings at Dutch schools have occurred before, they are rare. The Netherlands has strict laws on possession of firearms.
Almost five years ago, four pupils and a teacher at a school in the southern Dutch town of Veghel were wounded when a pupil opened fire in a computer room.
