ISLAMABAD (CNN) -- A Pakistani army convoy hit a landmine Thursday in the country's South Waziristan region, killing six soldiers and wounding 10 others, intelligence and police sources said.
The army truck was traveling near the town of Bade, about 25 miles (40 km) north of Wana in the tribal region along the border with Afghanistan.
For more than a year, Pakistani forces have been engaged in an operation against remnants of al Qaeda and Taliban. But in recent weeks both sides have suffered heavy causalities.
According to sources, two al Qaeda members were killed Wednesday in clashes with the Pakistani army.
In a raid in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore, intelligence officials raided a house and arrested four suspected al Qaeda members and seized a number of weapons. All of the men are Pakistani and are being interrogated.
