KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- One Norwegian soldier has been killed while another was wounded in a grenade attack on the eastern outskirts of the Afghan capital of Kabul.
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) says the men were targeted for attack in Kabul Sunday evening.
A grenade propelled by a rocket hit their vehicle on Jalalabad Road, close to where U.S., Afghan and coalition forces have bases, NATO military spokeswoman, Lt. Richard Scarth, said.
It was the first Norwegian death in the NATO-led multinational force in Afghanistan.
About 6,300 ISAF peacekeepers -- 200 from Norway -- are based around Kabul. A suicide bombing in the same area killed a Canadian peacekeeper in January.
The NATO-led peacekeeping force is made up of 25 NATO countries and 10 non-NATO nations.
In addition, about 20,000 U.S. troops are in Afghanistan to hunt remnants of the former ruling Taliban and the al Qaeda terrorist network.
They believe Osama bin Laden may be hiding somewhere in the area, and Pakistani forces on the other side of the border are hunting him down in a bid to hem him in the middle.

With elections set for September, the size of the U.S. force has grown by about 10,000 amid a wave of violence that has left about 600 civilians dead since last fall.
