Koreas cancel economic talks
SEOUL, South Korea (CNN) -- The impeachment of South Korea's president has prompted the cancellation of economic talks planned Monday, after South Korea refused a request by North Korea to hold them in Pyongyang.
North Korea argued that Friday's impeachment of President Roh Moo-hyun made political conditions in South Korea uncertain, but South Korea disagreed.
Prime Minister Goh Kun has temporarily taken the president's place.
The talks would focus on economic projects such as linking the Koreas by rail and roads.
The South's Unification Ministry said the two sides would discuss when and how to reschedule the working-level talks, which had been due to discuss economic cooperation projects and rail and road links being built through the Demilitarised Zone border, Reuters reported.
It was the first tangible fallout for North-South ties from Friday's impeachment vote. (Roh readies defense)
