SEOUL, South Korea (Reuters) -- South Korea's parliament approved on Friday a government plan to send 3,000 troops to help with the reconstruction of wartorn Iraq, a parliamentary official said.
The National Assembly vote of 155 in favour and 50 against followed months of debate since President Roh Moo-hyun pledged in October to send troops to help Seoul's ally, the United States, the official said.
Seven members of the 273-seat unicameral assembly abstained in the vote, held with 212 members present.
