Powerball winners in Pennsylvania, South Carolina
(CNN) -- Powerball officials said there were two winners in the $221.5 million Powerball lottery jackpot drawing New Year's Eve -- the fifth-largest jackpot in the game's history.
Winning tickets were sold in Pennsylvania and South Carolina, according to a statement from Multi-State Lottery Association spokesman Joe Mahoney.
The winning numbers were 5, 7, 18, 28, 35 and the Powerball was 1.
The winners will have to decide between a payout of about $110 million over 29 years or the one-time cash payment option worth about $60 million each.
The odds of winning a jackpot are 1 in 120 million, but many people apparently felt lucky ahead of the drawing, purchasing 16,700 tickets per minute, Mahoney said.
The Powerball lottery runs in 24 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
