I was in Istanbul, Turkey and the traffic is crazy there. We took a cab at peak hours and the driver was crazy -- even driving the wrong way on a main road to get to our hotel. But even under this circumstance I felt quite safe. And rates are reasonable, unless you are going from the European side to the Asian side. Normally, it would cost $3 to $5, (4.5 million to 7.5 million Turkish Lira). But if ride is long, it may go up to $40... Juan Orozco, Turkey
From my point of view budget airlines are good for people who are trying to cut their expenses, with a cut in comfort and safety. But a rich business traveler would never do this. People who value their lives and the quality of the their travel experience will never board these planes. Oleg, Moscow, Russia
An airplane is far too crowded to allow non-stop blathering into a mobile phone. As a frequent flyer, I believe it would be a serious invasion of space to be forced to listen to a one-sided conversation from a person you are elbow-to-elbow with. I say -- no -- to allowing cell phone use during flights. Gary, Irvine, California
As a travel agent in Manila, I think most of the business travel will be done on budget airlines. As a businessman if you can trim down the cost as much as possible they will consider taking cheaper airlines. Most of the businessmen today are travelling to maximize profit. So they sometimes sacrifice the service and comfort of a known airline for cheaper flights. DJ, Manila, Philippines
I have found that frequent business travelers want to fly as fast as possible, as comfortable as possible and as flexible as possible. Personally I am willing to pay for the service. There is no point sending the most valuable resource of a company -- the human being on a 20-hour flight and have them stuck in a tight seat between screaming children and drunk people. How is one supposed to work efficiently after that kind of torture? Kalle, Oslo, Norway
I want to get to a destination cheaply. Without meals and drinks, with my knees to my chin. It is only half a day of discomfort. Dave Comeau, Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada
I believe it should be mandatory for every commercial airline to have to pay taxes on fuel, and contribute to tree-planting organizations that offset their massive amounts of pollution. Jacob Ritley, Seattle, Washington
Budget airlines strike me as a natural progression and outcome in the travel industry. Travel is shifting from an elite group to the mass market, due to larger planes, public works, and government subsidies. What may yet emerge is a split between the budget mass traveler and the upper end jet-setter, with separate aircraft, rather than separate seating, and possibly even separate airports, with mass travelers set at a distance from smaller, more convenient airports. Matt, Sausailto, California
Mobile phone use in-flight should only be discouraged if it is in direct conflict with on-board systems that are validated by aircraft manufacturers. Otherwise the use of the phones should be permitted. Will Wetherholt, Atlanta, Georgia
