Strikes set for Heathrow, Gatwick
LONDON, England -- Strikes are expected to disrupt flights this weekend at London's two largest airports.
The Transport & General Workers Union said workers at Heathrow refueling firm AFS were planning job action Friday and Saturday after failing to reach a deal on pay and pensions.
The union said 40 airlines would be affected by the walkout, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, Qantas Airways, United Airlines and Air Canada.
A British Airways spokeswoman told Reuters the airline was looking at contingency plans to avoid flight disruptions.
BA recently secured a deal to avert a planned strike by more than 10,000 of its Heathrow staff.
At Gatwick, TGWU member employed by ground service company Servisair are set to strike Saturday and again on September 30 in a dispute over workloads.
