I would like the issue of business travel by airplane to be brought up. Not only considering the jet lag but the fact that some of us use this kind of transport to reduce their feeling of depression in their office or at home. Traveling is a powerful anti-depressant. I have felt it myself once when I was depressed. I stepped out of the plane and I was not depressed! It had nothing to do with where I was going and why I was going to there. It was the flight. Anita Watts, Brussels, Belgium

Because of where I live, wherever I have to go I have to travel via the U.S. I have no grudge against Americans but their immigration officers and policies are some of the worst in the world! I try whenever I can to get an indirect route via Latin America or Canada even to get to Europe! I am sure I'm not the only one. Ryan, Ensenada, Mexico

We travel to several countries in Europe, Canada, and other states in the U.S. We have the most problems with U.S. airport security. For that reason, we now travel direct to Europe from Alaska. This way we do not have to wait in lines for hours and put up with rude security personnel. We do not have such a thing in Canada or Europe. Mary Wiedle, Anchorage, Alaska

SAS is the worst airline in terms of the staff and the operation. I recently traveled to a number of Scandinavian cities with my one-year open ticket, but I had a booking trouble in Norway. The telephone lines for reservation are always busy. Sometimes I waited more than an hour but the phone never connected. Responses of staff are quite rude and the information they give is not accurate. They tend to blame on customers. Miki Sugimoto, Osaka, Japan

I like flying with American airlines because they usually have pretty good rates from Canada but customs and security is insane. I do not want to have to arrive at the airport four hours ahead of time and still have to rush so I can remove my shoelaces, have my shoes x-rayed and have to throw out any hair pins that could be used as weapons. Alessandra, Toronto, Canada

My sister and I were travelling together from Denver to Chicago, and we noticed a large number of priests milling around the gate. We did not think much about it, except that we thought our chances of crashing dropped dramatically if they were on our flight. At the gate, my mother reported that there was a lot of media personnel and security. She had assumed there was some sort of notorious criminal on board, especially when she saw someone being taken off of the rear of the plane before the rest of the flight was allowed to deplane. As it turns out, it was the new Cardinal of Chicago, who was to be ordained the next day. Liza Fleur, Hamburg, Germany

I travelled from New York to Paris on the same plane as Cary Grant in 1959. My mother took a photo of him disembarking the plane. He was easily the most handsome man I had ever seen. Valerie Stockert, Toronto, Canada

Changing planes at Chicago O'Hare in the late 1970s, I saw rock singer Steve Miller, who was wearing a one-piece fox fur jumpsuit with built-in boots. The outfit was beautiful, but so out there that only a rock star would wear it. John Anderson, Olean, New York

The things that upset me the most while traveling are delays at security check points and lost baggage. Lawnin Crawford, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
