PARIS, France (Reuters) -- Ligue 1 strugglers Caen knocked out holders Sochaux in the second round of the French League Cup on Wednesday.
They reached the last eight of the competition on a penalty shootout after the tie finished goalless after extra time.
Caen, who are 16th in the league, defended resolutely for the 90 minutes of the match and the additional half an hour before winning the shootout 4-3.
In Wednesday's other match, Benjani scored a late goal to hand AJ Auxerre a quarter-final berth with a 2-1 home win over Nantes.
Striker Hassan Ahamada opened the scoring for the visitors after 21 minutes before substitute forward Luigi Pieroni scored the equaliser in the 79th minute.
Three minutes from the final whistle, Benjani deflected a Bruno Cheyrou shot to give the hosts a fortunate win.
On Tuesday, Paris St Germain were knocked out by Montpellier, who play in the Ligue 2.
RC Lens, St Etienne, Monaco and second division Clermont also qualified for the last eight on Tuesday.
