Velasco completes Atletico switch
MADRID, Spain -- Atletico Madrid have signed former Spain defender Juan Velasco on a three-year contract from relegated Celta Vigo for a reported fee of four million euros ($4.83m).
The 27-year-old, who was finally unveiled by Atletico on Thursday after lengthy negotiations between the two clubs, hopes to see out his career with the Primera Liga side.
"I've signed for three years but I hope that we'll get together in a few years time so that I can finish my career here because it is a great club," he said.
Velasco, who was at Celta for five seasons, won the last of his four caps in a 4-1 defeat by Germany in Hannover in 2000.
