Bitter Petit ready to quit Chelsea
LONDON, England -- Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has lashed out at Roman Abramovich's running of the club and says he will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The French 33-year-old, out since January, will miss the rest of the season with knee problems.
"I know I won't be with Chelsea next season," Petit told France Football magazine.
"They don't want to keep me and I don't want to stay."
Petit, who said in January he hoped to stay for another two years, said he had been shocked by the club's treatment of coach Claudio Ranieri.
The Italian is expected to be replaced at the end of the season after months of intense press speculation over his future.
"The club is following a path with which I cannot identify," said Petit.
"Money can't buy success and a team spirit must be built on sound foundations.
"Ranieri is being blamed for all the problems in the world and I have a lot of respect and sympathy for him.
"If you honestly look at his record you will see it is the best."
Petit is about to undergo another knee operation and said he was no rush to return to action.
"I'm taking my time to come back," said Petit.
